while he sleeps
These past few weeks have been a bit different for me. Tony, a graphic designer who usually works from home, has been doing an on-site job for a new client. Most afternoons, while AJ is napping and the kids are at school, I’d be helping him with his design work (yup, I know my way around Photoshop pretty well). But with him gone, and our home still and quiet for 2-3 hours, I almost didn’t know what to do with myself! At first, I was spending my time tidying up, doing laundry, and prepping for dinner. (boring, I know). But then I realized that my time here at home will be over before I know it. AJ will be starting school in a couple of short years, and slowly but surely, I’ll be moving into the next phase of my life. I realized that it’s time for me to dive into what I’m most passionate about (outside of my family, of course). Photography. I’ve been dedicating this time to learning as much as I can – watching tutorals, reading books, playing with lighting, visiting photography websites (like this one and this one), and of course shooting. How refreshing it is to dedicate some time to something that is mine alone – something that moves me and that I would do for free because I love it so much. I’m not expecting miracles – and I know that learning enough to consider myself a professional will take some time. But for now, I’m happy to take it slow and learn as much as I can so that when the time comes for me to head back into the workplace, I can do something that will fill my heart and satisfy that need to create that lives deep within me.
